About Peninsula Medical, Inc.

Peninsula Medical understands that effective treatment of edema requires compression that reaches the deep subcutaneous tissues without obstructing the lymphatic and venous outflow. The soft, convoluted foam design of these products create high pressure points which provide a gentle, deep-tissue compression, while the low-pressure points help to prevent blocking vascular flow.

Peninsula Medical is the maker of the ReidSleeve and the Optiflow SC. These innovative products utilize a patented tissue gradient technology that effectively:

  • Improves lymphatic flow
  • Reduces numbness, tingling and pain often associated with standard compression pumps
  • Decreases the risk of tissue and venous damage.

The ReidSleeve

The ReidSleeve

The ReidSleeve applies a gentle, gradient pressure by use of a unique, soft foam insert. Compression is tailored to the patient's needs by a series of adjustable straps. The sleeve easily slides over the affected limb and then the compression bands are adjusted. A specially designed gauge (U.S. Patent 5,904,145) is used to assess the pressure exerted over any region of the limb. The gauge is as easy to use as a blood pressure cuff. This simple procedure insures that compression applied to the patient's limb is consistently applied and in the proper range to provide optimal results. Patients can fit the sleeve in minutes without assistance and have the confidence of knowing they are applying the most effective pressure. As the patient improves the ReidSleeve can be adjusted to the new arm size thereby maintaining the proper pressure range.

We are excited to introduce The CONTOUR (U.S. Patent 5,916,183). Several years in development and testing, this new sleeve is the ultimate in comfort and ease of application. It is lighter and cooler than the ReidSleeve® Classic while maintaining the original concept of the ReidSleeve Classic. Simply slip it on for the comforting and consistent pressure you have come to expect from the ReidSleeve Classic. Variable compression is obtained through a unique outer PowerSleeve®.

The ReidSleeve Classic has helped thousands of patients overcome lymphedema. As these patients achieved control of their lymphedema, we wanted a lighter and cooler sleeve to provide therapeutic maintenance. The CONTOUR achieves this objective. The custom unit construction provides a consistent snug fit and adjustable compression is obtained by the outer PowerSleeve. The PowerSleeve comes in several levels of compression, allowing the patient to adjust the pressure to the ideal level.

Tissue Gradient Technology

The CONTOUR is based on the ReidSleeve Tissue Gradient Technology (U.S. Patent 5,916,183). The foam insert provides both high and low pressure points. The Contour Plus

The Contour Plus

Designed for treatment of mild to moderate lymphedema.

The newest addition to our line of products is The ContourPlus(U.S. Patent 5,916,183). This is a slightly more aggressive version of the original Contour, but still very lightweight and comfortable. It utilizes denser foam and extends to the base of the fingers, where the standard Contour goes to the wrist, with a separate hand piece. Both of the designs, Contour and ContourPlus have slightly different characteristics and each may benefit a patient uniquely depending on their needs. They are lighter and cooler than the ReidSleeve® Classic while maintaining the original concept of the ReidSleeve Classic. Simply slip it on for the comforting and consistent pressure you have come to expect from the ReidSleeve Classic. Variable compression is obtained through a unique outer PowerSleeve ®.

The ReidSleeve Classic has helped thousands of patients overcome lymphedema. As these patients achieved control of their lymphedema, we wanted a lighter and cooler sleeve to provide therapeutic maintenance. The ContourPlus achieves this objective. The custom unit construction provides a consistent snug fit and adjustable compression is obtained by the outer PowerSleeve.

The ContourPlus is a modular design consisting of a base sleeve and an outer PowerSleeve. The base sleeve applies the patented Tissue Gradient Technology to the surface of the extremity while the PowerSleeve, constructed of a special highly elastic fabric is the main source of compression. The compression level with the combination of the main sleeve and one PowerSleeve is approximately 15-20 mmHg. Higher compression can simply be achieved by additional PowerSleeves. Each PowerSleeve raises compression by approximately 8-12 mmHg. The uniqueness of this modular design allows a wide range of compression levels while the ultra low friction of the specially selected fabrics, avoids discomfort in application associated with more traditional elastic garments.

Comfort and Results

The outer PowerSleeve is designed to overcome the friction that can build up between traditional garments and the skin. This friction can make it very difficult to apply traditional garments. However, this is overcome by the unique design of The ContourPlus. The materials used are designed to reduce the friction making it easier to slide The ContourPlus into proper position.

Many patients have mild lymphedema and do not require the full therapeutic compression provided by the ReidSleeve Classic. For these patients, The ContourPlus is ideal. The ContourPlus still provides the Tissue Gradient Technology of the ReidSleeve Classic but does so in a lighter and easier to use garment.

With so many different variations to lymphedema, from preventative garments to treatment for chronic and severe lymphedema, we have found the need to design and provide custom garments to fit the needs of most patients. The ContourPlus may be the ideal solution for your condition.

Many patients suffer mild to moderate edema after surgery such as axillary dissection, mastectomy or radiation treatment. These patients are finding that The ContourPlus effectively controls their edema. The results have prompted many patients to comment that they felt that if they had used The ContourPlus from the first signs of edema, they could have avoided developing more severe lymphedema.

The ContourPlus is also an ideal compliment to the ReidSleeve Classic. Many patients obtain additional therapeutic compression during the day by using The ContourPlus. This allows these patients to maintain the results obtained with the ReidSleeve Classic and experience additional improvement. By coming at lymphedema from multiple angles, you can be successful in the fight to obtain lasting reduction.

The Opera simply slides on for the comfort and consistent pressure you have come to expect from the ReidSleeve Classic. Variable compression is obtained through the patented outer PowerSleeve (U.S. Patent 6,656,141).

The ReidSleeve Classic has helped thousands of patients overcome lymphedema. As these patients achieved control of their lymphedema, we sought for a lighter and cooler sleeve to provide therapeutic maintenance. The CONTOUR products achieve this objective. To take this a step further, The Opera was developed to offer a yet lighter and slimmer product. The custom unit construction provides a consistent snug fit and adjustable compression is obtained by the outer PowerSleeve. The PowerSleeve comes in several levels of compression, allowing the patient to adjust the pressure to the ideal level.

The foam insert provides both high and low pressure points. This patented design concept provides variable tissue pressure, maximizing compression while minimizing the obstruction of normal lymphatic flow. With older technologies, the pressure applied encircled and constricted normal lymphatic and venous flow. This unique system provides effective, comfortable compressive therapy for lymphedema.

Many patients have mild lymphedema and do not require the full therapeutic compression provided by the ReidSleeve Classic. For these patients, The CONTOUR products are ideal. The Opera provides the same Tissue Gradient Technology of the ReidSleeve Classic and the other CONTOUR products, but does so in a lighter and slimmer design. Despite the fact that it is light and easy to use, many patients report significant reductions in their edema as a result of the use of The Opera. Therefore, if your lymphedema is mild, The Opera may be the ideal solution for your condition.

The Precise Gauge

The Precise Gauge

Accurate and reproducible determination of compression is essential to effective therapy. Pressures that are too high can have a tourniquet effect, blocking the outflow of lymphatic and venous circulation, forcing fluid into the tissue. Pressures that are too low will have little or no effect. To overcome these problems, we have developed the Precise Gauge (U.S. Patent 5,904,145) for use with the ReidSleeve. The optimal compression can be determined by a simple procedure, assuring the patient of the best possible results.
